“There is always something wrong with a manuscript”

WEEK NINE: THE PRINCIPLES OF COPY-EDITING

Copy editing is is the process of taking the raw material and  improving the formatting, style and language of the text. This lesson was based on the technical aspect of preparing a manuscript for typesetting and the importance of reading what you are given!

As a freelance copy-editor, Andrew said that he sometimes works for a number of different Publishing Houses and they each have their own briefs to work to. He stressed the importance of reading your brief so each manuscript matches the house style. This is important so all content is consistent and it refers to punctuation, grammar, formatting and tables etc.
